Venus in the 7th House: Leo 28°15', Uttara Phalguni Pada 1
Venus sits in the 7th house at Leo 28°15' sidereal, in Uttara Phalguni, pada 1, ruled by the Sun. That is the house of marriage, business partner, and the public — in whole-sign houses, the way vedic astrology counts them, the 7th is simply the sign opposite your ascendant sign, Aquarius. Venus here is not in its own sign or in a sign it's friendly with; the block calls it "in an unfriendly sign," Leo, ruled by the Sun. In western astrology the same Venus falls at Virgo 21°47' tropical — a different sign, about 24 degrees away, because the two systems measure the zodiac from different starting points. Both are correct. They are answering different questions.
What this placement means
Start with the house. The 7th governs the people you deal with as an equal and by agreement — a spouse, a business partner, a client base, the public that decides whether it likes you or not. Venus there means the planet of attraction, taste, and negotiated value sits in the seat of partnership. That is generally read as a strong placement for relating: people notice you, you notice back, and there's usually some pull toward marriage or partnership rather than going it alone.
Now the complication. Venus is in Leo, which is not a sign Venus is comfortable in — the block marks it "in an unfriendly sign." Leo wants to be seen and be central; Venus in Leo can look for a partner who lets it shine, or overvalue being admired within the relationship itself. What that does not mean: it is not a sentence to a bad marriage, and it does not mean you are shallow or vain. An unfriendly-sign placement is a planet working in unfamiliar territory, not a broken one. Think of it the way you'd think of a skilled cook handed an unfamiliar kitchen — the skill is intact, the results take more attention to get right.
The nakshatra adds detail the sign alone doesn't give you. Uttara Phalguni, ruled by the Sun, is associated with partnership through agreement and reciprocity — contracts, marriage vows, business terms — rather than through pure attraction. Pada 1 falls in Leo's own division within that nakshatra, which sharpens the same theme: partnership on visible, formal terms, not a quiet private arrangement. That the nakshatra lord is the Sun, and the sign lord of Leo is also the Sun, means one planet — the Sun — is doing a lot of the explaining for how this Venus actually behaves. In my experience that kind of repetition in a chart is worth more than it looks: it means the 7th house here runs partly on the Sun's business, meaning status, recognition, and formal standing, not just Venus's business of charm and ease.
Schools read dignity differently in places. Parashari texts generally treat an unfriendly-sign Venus as a planet that has to work harder to deliver its promised results — pleasant but not automatic. Some southern-school readings weigh the nakshatra more heavily than the sign for this kind of judgment, which is part of why Uttara Phalguni's reciprocity theme matters as much here as Leo's discomfort. Neither view cancels the other; they're asking about different layers of the same degree.
A worked example
Take the chart calculated for 1 November 1975, 14:41 local time, Kota Kinabalu. The ascendant is Aquarius, at 20°51'. Counting whole signs from Aquarius, the 7th house lands on Leo — which is exactly where this Venus sits, at 28°15' sidereal, in the final degrees of the sign. There are no other planets in that house; the block shows no co-tenants, so whatever this Venus does, it does without another planet's involvement complicating the picture.
Twenty-eight degrees fifteen minutes puts Venus almost at the very end of Leo, deep into the territory where a sign is about to hand off to the next one — here, the nakshatra is already Uttara Phalguni, pada 1, so the late degree doesn't change nakshatra, but it does mean this Venus is close to leaving Leo behind. A Venus positioned late in its sign like this tends to read as a planet that has largely finished expressing what Leo asks of it and is closer to the next sign's business — worth noting, not worth overstating, since it's still fully in Leo until it isn't.
The current running period, in Vimshottari dasha terms, is ruled by Saturn, from 17 June 2024 to 18 June 2043. Saturn is also this chart's ascendant ruler — the planet that governs the 1st house from Aquarius. A Saturn period running for a chart where Saturn also rules the ascendant tends to put weight on structure, responsibility, and long timelines generally, in whatever house and sign Saturn itself occupies — that's a separate placement not given in this block, so I won't guess at it here. What matters for the 7th house Venus specifically is that during a Saturn period, agreements made under this Venus's influence — partnerships, marriage timing, business terms — tend to move at Saturn's pace: slower to form, but built to hold once they do.
What to do with it
If Venus in the 7th describes your chart, here's where I'd put the attention:
- Notice whether you're picking partners for how they make you visible rather than for how they actually fit day to day. That's the Leo pull to watch for, not to fight.
- Put partnership terms in writing where you can — the Uttara Phalguni theme is agreement, not assumption. This applies as much to a business partner as a spouse.
- Don't take a single unfriendly-sign dignity as a forecast of difficulty in the relationship itself. Check what's aspecting Venus and what sign its dispositor, the Sun, sits in before drawing a conclusion.
- If you're in a Saturn period yourself, expect partnership matters to move on a longer timeline than you'd like, and don't read the slowness as rejection.
- Look at the navamsha, the D9 chart, for a second opinion on marriage specifically — in this chart Venus lands in Sagittarius there, which is a different question from the one the birth chart answers, and worth its own reading rather than folding it into this one.
How to check your own chart
None of this transfers to your birth data without your own ascendant, degrees, and dasha. You need an accurate birth time — a shift of even a few minutes can move the ascendant enough to change which house Venus falls in, and that changes the whole reading. Run your data through the calculator at spacemirror.ru — the form on the home page will give you the ascendant, the house placement for each planet, and the dasha currently running. Once you have your own Venus's sign, degree, and nakshatra in hand, you can check it against what's written here point by point, rather than taking any of it on faith.
