Transiting North Node Against Your Natal Chart
Someone has probably told you the North Node is "pulling you toward your destiny" or that it's "activating your Uranus." What is actually happening is narrower and more measurable: a point in the sky has reached a specific angle to a fixed point in your birth chart, and that angle has a date attached to it.
where it is right now
As of 19 September 2026, the North Node sits at Aquarius 29°31', moving direct. That's the very end of the sign — within a fraction of a degree of Pisces.
how fast it moves, and why that decides everything
The North Node covers about 0.0529 degrees a day. That's slow by planetary standards, but the node is classed here as fast-moving relative to the outer planets — it still completes a full circuit of the zodiac in 18.61 years, spending roughly 1.55 years in each sign. Run the arithmetic forward a year and it has shifted by -18.98 degrees, moving backward through the zodiac rather than forward — this is the node's ordinary direction, not a special event.
This is the whole reason people talk about the node so differently from, say, the Moon. A body that moves through a whole sign in 1.55 years gives you a contact that lasts weeks, not hours. You don't get hit and released in an afternoon; you sit inside the angle for a stretch of calendar time, and the exact date is what tells you when it peaks.
what an orb really tells you
For this transit, the orb for a major aspect — conjunction, square, opposition, trine — is 1.5 degrees. For a minor aspect it tightens to 0.8. That is not a measure of how strongly you'll feel it. It's a conversion of degrees into days: at 0.0529 degrees of daily motion, 1.5 degrees is roughly how long the node stays close enough to the point to count as "in aspect" at all. A wide orb on a slow body would keep an aspect open for the better part of a year, which tells you almost nothing about timing. A tight orb on a body like this narrows the window down to something you can actually put a date on.
when it goes backwards
There are no direction changes listed for the North Node in the twelve months from 19 September 2026. That's not a gap in the data — the true node, tracked this way, holds a steady direct motion through this window; nothing here flips it to retrograde and back. No sign changes are listed either, so it stays in Aquarius through the same period, working its way toward the Aquarius–Pisces boundary rather than crossing it.
Without a reversal in the loop, a natal point the node touches during this stretch gets one pass, not several. That's worth knowing on its own: some transits return to the same degree two or three times as a planet turns back on itself; this one, on current figures, does not.
a worked example
Take a chart calculated for 13 March 1988, 08:15, in Ipoh — the person is 38.5 years old as of the date this data was run. Their natal Uranus sits at Capricorn 0°49'. The transiting North Node, at Aquarius 29°31', forms a sextile to that Uranus — a harmonious angle, 60 degrees apart, with the sign difference bridging the very end of Aquarius to the very start of Capricorn.
The orb on this contact is 1.3132 degrees, inside the 1.5-degree limit for a major aspect. The listed exact date is 1 July 2026, and by 19 September 2026 the contact is separating, not applying — it has already passed its closest point and is now widening back out of range. There's no second exact date because, as above, nothing in this window sends the node back over the degree a second time.
what this does not tell you
The ephemeris gives you the angle and the date. It doesn't tell you what happens on that date, or whether anything happens at all. A sextile between the node and Uranus is a geometric fact about two moving points; what a person does with the weeks around 1 July 2026 isn't written in the sky, and no calculator will tell you that part.
