Venus transiting your natal chart

Somebody has probably told you Venus is "activating" something in your chart this month, or an app flagged a conjunction and left it at that. What is actually happening is narrower and more useful: a planet is moving through the sky at a measurable daily rate, and on its path it is passing within a small margin of a fixed point in your birth chart. The rest is interpretation. The timing is not.

where it is right now

As of 19 September 2026, Venus sits at Scorpio 4°55', moving direct. That is the figure everything below is built from - a Venus transit article dated any other day would be describing a different sky.

how fast it moves, and why that decides everything

Venus covers about 0.468 degrees a day at present. A full circuit of the zodiac takes it roughly a year, and it spends about 0.08 years - under a month - in each sign under normal direct motion. That is quick by planetary standards: the Moon is faster, Saturn and Pluto are far slower, and the difference in speed is the entire reason a Venus transit and a Saturn transit get talked about so differently. A body moving under half a degree a day sweeps past a point and is gone; a body moving a few minutes of arc a year sits on the same point for months. People call the slow ones "big" transits not because they are stronger, but because they overstay.

what an orb really tells you

The orb used for Venus's major aspects here is 2.0 degrees, with 1.0 degree for the minor ones. That is deliberately tight - nothing like the 8 or 10 degree orbs used in natal chart comparisons. An orb is not a dial for how much a transit matters; it is a ruler for how long it lasts. At 0.468 degrees a day, a 2.0 degree orb is roughly how many days the contact stays within range before Venus moves on. Widen the orb and you are not making the transit more significant, you are just describing a longer window.

when it goes backwards

Venus turns retrograde on 3 October 2026 at Scorpio 8°29', then turns direct again on 14 November 2026 at Libra 22°52'. In between, it crosses back into Libra on 25 October 2026 while still retrograde, then re-enters Scorpio direct on 4 December 2026. That loop is not decoration - it means any point Venus touches during this window near Scorpio 4-8° or Libra 22-23° can be reached more than once: once on the way in, once backing over it retrograde, and once more coming forward again. A single pass becomes three.

After that stretch, Venus moves on at its ordinary pace: into Sagittarius on 7 January 2027, Capricorn on 3 February 2027, Aquarius on 1 March 2027, Pisces on 26 March 2027, Aries on 20 April 2027, Taurus on 14 May 2027, Gemini on 8 June 2027, Cancer on 3 July 2027, Leo on 27 July 2027, Virgo on 20 August 2027, Libra on 14 September 2027, and back into Scorpio on 8 October 2027 - closing the circuit a year on from where this reading started.

a worked example

Here is a chart calculated for 5 April 1995, 07:56, in Ipoh - anonymous, used only to show the method. At the current age of 31.5, transiting Venus at Scorpio 4°55' forms a conjunction to this chart's natal North Node at Scorpio 5°40'. The orb is 0.7551 degrees, well inside the 2.0 degree limit for a major aspect, and the contact is applying - Venus is still closing the gap, not moving away from it.

Because this falls inside the retrograde window above, the contact is exact four separate times: 20 September 2026 direct, 15 October 2026 retrograde, 12 December 2026 direct again, and once more, a year later, on 12 October 2027 when Venus returns to this degree on its next circuit. Four dated passes over the same 0°45' of sky, not one vague "Venus month."

what this does not tell you

The ephemeris gives you where a planet is and when it is closest to a point in your chart. It does not tell you what happens on those dates, what the conjunction means for this particular person, or whether four passes over a Node degree adds up to anything noticeable in a life. That reading is yours to make, with whatever else you know about the chart. The dates are fixed; what you do with them is not.
